Guess who is opposed to introducing a single payer bill into the California legislature this session?

There are the usual suspects — the insurance companies and the Republicans.

But then you have, also in opposition — the California Democratic Party — including Governor Jerry Brown and Senator Mark Leno, the author of the California single payer bill for the past two sessions — and the California Nurses Association.

Congressman John Conyers (D-Michigan) has reintroduced his single payer bill – HR 676 – The Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act,” H.R. 676.

Conyers was joined by 37 other House members as original co-sponsors – 12 more than last year’s initiating group which eventually grew to 77.

The bill would replace private health insurance companies with a single, streamlined public agency that would pay all medical claims.
