Car Wreck, No Insurance, Fundraiser, Single Payer
February 27, 2012
What happens if you are in your early 60s.
You live in West Virginia.
You have no health insurance.
You are a couple of years shy of 65 — the magic number for single payer coverage.
And you get into a car wreck.
And break both hips.
And end up in the hospital — where you are operated on eight times.
And the doctors then start getting nasty with you.
Because you don’t have health insurance.
And force you out before you get a chance to get into rehab.
And the bills are skyrocketing.
And you don’t have any money.
And you are looking bankruptcy straight in the face.
Here’s what happens.
Because we are a loving people, we put up a jar in the local coffee shop.
With a sign on it — Donations for Linda’s Medical Bills Due to Car Wreck.
We buy a coffee, a donut, and drop a couple of bucks in the jar for Linda.
A stop gap.
God help us.
To drop the Medicare age to zero.
Get rid of the insurance corporations.
And get Linda some relief.
Onward to single payer.
