Crawford to Sebelius – Why is Single Payer Off the Table?

June 29, 2009

Dr. Jewel Crawford believes passionately in single payer health insurance.

So much so that yesterday, Dr. Crawford traveled to the Fox News studios in Washington, D.C. to confront Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.

Dr. Crawford teaches at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta.

Dr. Crawford was accompanied at the Fox News studio by journalist Sam Husseini of Washington Stakeout.

“Why is single payer being taken off the table?” Dr. Crawford asked Sebelius as Sebelius left the Fox News studio on Capitol Hill.

Sebelius repeated the Obama administration line – “if we were starting over from scratch, that would probably be the ideal way to go.”

“What happened to all the change (Obama) was talking about?” Dr. Crawford said afterward. “The health care system is in shambles. We need to start from scratch. Things are a mess. They are not working for anybody, except for the profiteers. Under single payer, there is no need for insurance companies. Everybody is covered. We need to eliminate the health insurance industry. They don’t serve any purpose, except taking money from people.”
